Year of the Duo Ring: Celebrity Edition

Many believe that Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly were the first to create a two-stone engagement ring but in reality, they were just the latest couple to jump on this increasingly popular duo ring trend!

Famous Duo Rings in History

Duo rings have been around for centuries however their spike in popularity over the years can definitely be attributed to today’s pop culture. From Josephine Bonaparte to Megan Fox, let’s take a deep dive into how duo rings have evolved.

Josephine Bonaparte, Empress of France

Josephine, Empress of France, married Napoleon Bonaparte in 1796 after a short courtship. Napoleon showered her with passionate love letters before presenting her with an engagement ring made up of two ‘tear-drops’, one made from Sapphire and one Diamond. The dual stone ring was meant to symbolize the joining of their two hearts into one.

This famous ring was sold at auction for $949,000 in 2013. If you’re interested in this style of ring and, like most of us, don’t have a million dollars to spend, we have made a similar ring for only $4,300.

Jacqueline Kennedy

Most well-known for being the 35th First Lady of the United States, Jacqueline, commonly referred to as Jackie O, was married to President John F. Kennedy from 1953 until his assassination in 1963. Designed by Van Cleef & Arpels, her original engagement ring featured a 2.88ct Diamond and a 2.84ct Emerald, tapered by several baguette diamonds in a yellow gold band.

In 1961, the First Lady took the ring back to Van Cleef & Arpels to upgrade the already astonishing ring. The sleek baguettes from the original ring were replaced with marquise-shaped diamonds that were then remounted next to the iconic stones to appear like a wreath.

If you’re looking for something with the same amount of extra and unique features, our newest “duo” features one Yellow Radiant Diamond and one Natural Radiant Diamond with diamond side stones.

Emily Ratajkowski

Emily Ratajkowski is notorious for many things, but one thing most people don’t know is she spearheaded the return of the duo ring in pop culture. Ratajkowski, or as most refer to as EmRata, rose to fame in 2013 when she starred in Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines music video. Her attention-grabbing beauty shot her into stardom very fast, appearing in several modeling campaigns, magazines, and movies.

In 2018, EmRata announced that she had married her boyfriend, Sebastian Bear-McClard in a private, courthouse wedding. While the engagement and wedding were modest, her engagement ring is most definitely not. Diamond experts estimate the ring consists of one 2ct princess cut diamond and one 3ct pear-shaped diamond.

Not much else is known about her ring since neither EmRata nor her husband have shared any details besides that they asked their friend in jewelry to manufacture it for them.

Love EmRata’s ring? We have the perfect dupe (and for a lot less I can guarantee.) Check out our Pear and Princess Cut Diamond Duo Engagement Ring:

Ariana Grande

While this tiny singer has been in several high-profile relationships and more than one engagement, her most famous engagement ring was given to her in 2020 by ex Dalton Gomez.

Grande’s ring was designed by Jack Solow of Solow & Co. It is estimated that the oval-cut diamond is around 5 carats. The addition of the pearl was from Grande’s late grandfather’s tie pin. In 2014, her “Nonna” gifted it to her after having a dream that the pearl would protect her. In addition, a pearl is Grande’s birthstone.

While pearls are elegant, they do not make for great engagement ring center stones as they are incredibly soft and prone to scratching or even falling off the ring entirely. If your heart is set on a pearl engagement ring, be prepared to replace the center stone down the line.

In summary, a pearl engagement ring will last about as long as Grande and Gomez’s engagement did.

Kylie Jenner + Stormi Webster

Not an engagement ring, Kylie Jenner and her daughter Stormi were gifted matching diamond duo rings by longtime partner and father, respectively, Travis Scott. Both rings consist of one radiant cut diamond and one pear-shaped diamond set in a pave band.

Experts estimate the diamonds in Kylie’s ring weigh approx. 5 or 6 carats each. They also estimate Stormi’s petite version is approximately 1.5ct per stone. Both rings combined are estimated to cost just under half a million dollars.

Now we’re not saying you should get your child a matching diamond duo ring… but if you did, we’ve got the perfect petite duo rings!

Indy Blue

India Blue Severe, known on social media as Indy Blue, is a blogger, influencer, and owner of lifestyle fashion brand Lonely Ghost. Blue got engaged to her high school sweetheart towards the end of 2021 in a sweet video filmed by the influencer’s mom.

Not much is known about the ring other than what is visually apparent. Our best guess is that her ring has one elongated cushion cut diamond and one pear-shaped aquamarine. However, this has not been confirmed by Blue or her fiance. Regardless, this ring is spectacular and certainly different!

If you’re looking for something with a similar essence, our Yellow Diamond Cushion and Oval Diamond Duo will accomplish just that.

Megan Fox

A woman who needs no introduction, Fox has captivated millions with her no-less-than-perfect features and talent. Most notable for her roles in Transformers and Jennifer’s Body, Fox has been acting and modeling for decades.

Anyone reading this is already aware of the steamy and publicized relationship between Fox and musician Machine Gun Kelly (nee Colson Baker). Her ring is probably what opened your eyes to duo rings in the first place!

As most know at this point, Baker designed the ring to be filled with sentiment and meaning to both Baker and Fox. The two pears together are meant to form “the obscure heart that is [their] love,” said Baker. He also noted that he chose a natural Diamond and Emerald as they are his and Fox’s birthstones, respectively.

And then they drank each other’s blood.

While I won’t promise you that we can make you a ring with “thorns” for the setting like Fox’s ring, I can promise you that if you’re looking for something romantic, we have just the rings!
