Sierra Leone: New Diamond Mine to Hold First Sale in May
The Tongo Diamond Mine, which is the newest diamond mine in Sierra Leone, will hold its first ever sale later this month, IDEX Online reports. Tender viewings will be held in Antwerp from May 16 until the online sale on May 20.
Operated by Australia-based Newfield Resources, Tongo is described by its owner as “an 8.3m carat JORC compliant indicated and inferred diamond resource, primarily based on five kimberlites”.
Work on the mine has been ongoing over the last decade and so far “there are 1,229 meters of underground development.”
