Burgundy to Complete Purchase of Etaki by End of June

Australia-based Burgundy will complete the purchase of Ekati, Canada’s first diamond mine, by June 30, according to IDEX Online. The seller, Arctic Canadian Diamond Company, bought the mine in February 2021 after Dominion Diamonds filed for insolvency.  Burgundy is also reviving the Ellendale mine in Western Australia.

According to the report, “the Arctic Diamond name will be retained.” Before the sale, Arctic Diamond said it was working on flooding the existing open pit and deploying a remote-controlled underwater crawler. This “would be the first use of such technology to retrieve diamonds,” according to the report.

In other Canada-based mining news, Mountain Province Diamonds has announced that it discovered additional kimberlite at the Gahcho Kue mine, in Canada’s Northwest Territories.
