Enlist Family Members And Friends
First things first, ask the people closest to you and your partner–they might already know their ring size! If not, they can easily find out through casual conversation. Secretly Borrow A Ring
This is one of the easiest ways to secretly get your loved one’s ring size. However, it only works if they wear a ring on their left ring finger and it fits properly. Your safest option is taking that ring to the jeweler you plan on using to make your engagement ring. However, if you don’t think you can get away with that or that they will notice, you can trace its inner circumference onto a piece of paper and bring that to the jeweler.
Get A Ring For Another Occasion
You can use this method at any time without any doubt since you can go shopping with your partner for a birthday, anniversary, or holiday. Under the guise of buying them jewelry for another occasion, you can have them try on different kinds of jewelry (to quell any suspicion) as well as rings to find out their ring size. Or if you don’t go shopping with them, you can ask them for their ring size for their “gift.”
Caveat: you will most likely end up having to buy a piece of jewelry so as not to blow your cover!
Have an Honest Conversation
We know this doesn’t really seem like something that would seem like a tip to secretly get your partner’s ring size, but most couples who are seriously considering an engagement and marriage will have at least one conversation about it. If and when that happens, try to slip the question into the conversation about ring size or suggest that your partner tell their best friend. That way, if all else fails you have a backup plan.

- Involve as few people as you can so as not to spoil the surprise
- Avoid ring measurements in high heat, low temperatures, and in the morning as all of these factors will cause the fingers to swell or shrink and make the measurements inaccurate
