Alrosa’s 2024 Diamond Output Falls
Russian mining giant Alrosa reported a 4.6% decline in diamond production for 2024, with total output falling to 33 million carats of rough diamonds, down from 34.6 million carats the previous year, according to Rough&Polished.
However, the state-owned Russian mining company maintains, according to a report by IDEX Online, that it has no intention of lowering production volumes in the future.
During a meeting with Yakutia’s regional leader, Alrosa CEO Pavel Marinychev highlighted several initiatives launched this year to maintain production levels and improve mining efficiency, as reported by Interfax.
The company’s operations are projected to contribute roughly 50 billion rubles (about $486.5 million) to Yakutia’s regional budget for the year.
In related news, Alrosa is reportedly planning to sell its stake in Angola’s Catoca diamond mine. Western sanctions have made continued collaboration increasingly challenging, prompting this strategic decision.
