Gahcho Kué Produces its Largest Ever Diamond

Mountain Province Diamonds, a part owner of the Gahcho Kué diamond mine in Canada’s Northwest Territories, has announced the discovery of a 157.4 carat monster gem. This is the largest “gem quality” diamond recovered at the mine. The diamond, according to news reports, will be put on sale during the first quarter of 2021.

Mountain Province also reported that in the fourth quarter of 2020, it sold 956,348 carats for $80.2 million. Mountain Province President Stuart Brown commented: “The diamond industry has faced immense challenges during 2020 so to end the year with such a strong sales performance is very encouraging”.

Brown added: “Rough diamond prices, in the larger and better-qualities have been exceptional and pleasingly we saw further improvement in the smaller and lower quality diamonds which we believe will continue to strengthen in 2021”.
