The past two years were tumultuous at best, with high highs and low lows. Despite the global chaos of 2020 and 2021, there was one major constant trend: love. While everlasting love and passionate engagements are here to stay, engagement ring trends are ever-shifting.

We scoured our client and industry data from 2021 to determine our engagement ring trend predictions for 2022. We believe that the following trends will continue to boom in popularity throughout 2022 and onward.

Whether you plan to propose to your partner or you feel that your partner might propose to you this year, a survey of the up-and-coming trends is a good place to start for engagement ring inspiration.

Lauren B Engagement Ring Trend Predictions

Yellow Gold Solitaire Rings

The solitaire engagement ring is classic and timeless in its elegance and simplicity. Over the past few decades, white gold and platinum bands were the most popular style for solitaire engagement rings. However, a growing interest in yellow gold solitaire rings in 2021 inspires our 2022 engagement ring prediction.

Yellow gold bands are most flattering on skin with yellow undertones but are a classic choice and look great on almost everyone. Yellow gold bands pair beautifully with any center stone selection but look best with diamonds with a color grade of D-J.

Oval Shapes

Oval cut engagement rings topped the charts in 2021 securing the #1 spot as the most popular shape for yet another year. We predict that oval-shaped center stones will remain the most popular shape in 2022… and for the foreseeable future.

Oval-cut center stones provide ample finger coverage with longer length measurements than other fancy shapes. As a result, oval cuts appear larger on the finger than other cuts or shapes with comparable carat sizes. The elongated oval-shape features brilliant*cut faceting which allows it to maintain plenty of sparkle and brilliance.

Lab-Grown Diamonds Trend

Lab-grown diamonds are gaining popularity as a natural diamond alternative for both engagement rings. We predict lab-grown diamonds will continue to increase in popularity in 2022 as a budget-conscious, eco-friendly option for engagement ring center stones.

Lab-grown diamonds are identical to natural diamonds in chemical composition with no perceivable differences unless examined by special gemological equipment. The only difference between lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds is that lab-grown diamonds are created in a lab while natural diamonds are formed deep below the Earth’s surface. Lab-grown diamonds are classified as “real” diamonds by the Federal Trade Commission, therefore debunking all myths that lab-grown diamonds are fake.

Lab-grown diamonds are priced 50-70% lower than natural diamonds due to the fact that there is a finite amount of natural diamonds in the world whereas lab-grown diamonds can be produced without limitations.

In addition to the lower price point, lab-grown diamonds are gaining popularity as an eco-friendly center stone option. Since these natural diamond alternatives are developed in a lab, they are free from potential environmental conflict.

Diamond Duo Rings

Diamond duo engagement rings, sometimes referred to as “Toi et Moi” (French for “You and Me”) rings, are a growing trend in the engagement ring category. The duo engagement ring features two center stones nestled side-by-side, either parallel or at an angle.

While the diamond duo ring is brimming with sentimentality, these rings are also beautifully unique and offer the wearer the opportunity to embrace creativity with center stone selections. In addition, diamond duo engagement rings offer an option for those who cannot decide between shapes or want different gemstones.

Profile Accents Trend

We noticed an increased interest in profile accents and setting details in 2021 and we expect this trend to continue well into 2022. Profile accents allow your engagement ring to stun viewers from the ring’s top and profile while keeping the primary focus on your stunning center stone.

At Lauren B, we offer a wide variety of profile accents for all of our engagement ring selections including pave prongs, Hidden Halo™, our Signature Wrap, and a fully encrusted basket.

Pave Prongs

2.01 Carat Round Diamond Super Slim Band Engagement Ring

Pave prong rings feature tiny diamonds lining each prong of the center stone. Pave prongs create a beautiful crown effect from the profile of your engagement ring adding sparkle and intricate detailing to otherwise plain metal prongs.

Hidden Halo™

2.30 ct Cushion Cut Diamond Hidden Halo™ Engagement Ring

Our Hidden Halo™ features two rows of pave diamonds beneath the center stone surrounding the prongs. With a double-edged, partially hidden design, the Hidden Halo™ is perfect for someone who wants to accentuate their center stone without the addition of a direct halo.

Signature Wrap

3.20 carat Lab Grown Oval Diamond Signature Wrap Engagement Ring

1.5 carat Radiant Cut Diamond Double Signature Wrap Engagement Ring

The Lauren B Signature Wrap features a single, or double, pave diamond wrap beneath the center stone surrounding the prongs. The Signature Wrap is subtle and only visible from a profile view of the ring.

Fully Encrusted Basket

3.01 Carat Radiant Cut Diamond Pave Basket Engagement Ring

The fully encrusted basket setting features pave diamonds lining all parts of the center stone’s basket. This includes the prongs, the space between each prong, and any other support to the center stone. This setting style creates a dazzling side profile with magnificent sparkle. When paired with a pave diamond band, a fully encrusted basket can add a great deal of glamor to any engagement ring.
