Climate Crisis – and Opportunity: Greeneland is the Site of A Massive Treasure Hunt
The actual melting of Greenland is creating an opportunity for investors and mining companies “who are searching for a trove of critical minerals capable of powering the green energy transition,” according to a piece in CNN quoted by Rough & Polished.
Jeff Bezos, Michael Bloomberg, Bill Gates and other billionaires are investing in efforts to look for “enough critical minerals to power hundreds of millions of electric vehicles” below the surface in Greenland’s Disko Island and Nuussuaq Peninsula. Kurt House, CEO of Kobold Metals that is financially backed by the billionaire club, is quoted as saying: “We are looking for a deposit that will be the first- or second-largest most significant nickel and cobalt deposit in the world”.
According to the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, “Greenland could be a hotspot for coal, copper, gold, rare-earth elements and zinc.”
