De Beers’ Rough Production Gets a Boost in Q3

Diamond miner De Beers’ rough production has increased 4% to 9.6 million carats in the 3rd quarter of the year, “mainly due to the treatment of higher grade ore at both Orapa in Botswana and South Africa as well as continued strong performance in Namibia,” according to a report in Rough & Polished.

De Beers’ parent company, Anglo American, said that De Beers’ production guidance remained unchanged  for 2022 (32-34 million carats). Rough diamond sales totaled 9.1 million carats – compared to 7.8 million carats from two sights a year earlier, and 9.4 million carats from three sights in the second quarter of 2022.

Anglo Amerixan stated: “While consumer demand for natural diamonds continues to be robust, a deterioration of global economic conditions, reduced consumer spending and continued Chinese Covid-19 lockdowns have the potential to impact demand for diamond jewellery.”
