Alrosa: Yakutia and Other Mines Could Take Reserves to 1.1 Billion Carats
Alrosa’s chief geologist, Konstantin Garanin said in an interview to news channel 1sn.ru that the Russian miner expects to find more diamonds in Yakutia and other places “which could take total reserves to an estimated 1.1 billion carats,” IDEX Online reports.
According to Garanin, the most promising new territories are the north of Yakutia, “in the north west and north east of the country – in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Irkutsk Region.” Small reserves are also present in the Perm Territory.
Recently, Alrosa’s CEO Sergey Ivanov announced that the company will “exceed the plan for financial indicators and diamond production by the end of 2022.” According to Ivanov, “all financial results will exceed the forecasts that we discussed about a year ago. In terms of production, the company will exceed the plan. We are now going somewhere in the range of 35.5 million carats.” Alrosa’s earlier prediction for rough production was 34.3 million.
