Things to Consider Before Buying a Wedding Band

The next step after your engagement is to find the perfect wedding band for your special day. Understanding what to look for will help you shop smarter and find the ideal wedding band to celebrate your love.

Wedding Band Budget

We understand that budget is an important factor when shopping for your wedding band. Luckily, we offer a wide range of stunning options to fit your budget. From classic, simple metal bands to exquisite designs with natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds, and color gemstones, you’re sure to find the perfect wedding band to pair with your engagement ring.

Additionally, if you can’t find something in our wedding band inventory that matches your preferences and your budget, you can custom design your ideal wedding band!

Wedding Band Metal Type

Before choosing your wedding band, consider the metal of your engagement ring. Is it white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, or platinum? Maybe it’s even two-tone! Most commonly, people tend to choose the same metal for their wedding band that they have for their engagement ring for a seamless stack appearance.

While many people end up opting for the same metal for both rings, an increasing number of clients are now mixing metals for a more striking stack.

Engagement Ring Setting Matters

Next, you should consider the setting of your engagement ring. The cathedral setting is the highest profile setting, elevating your center stone higher off your finger. In contrast, our Invisible Gallery™ setting sits lowest to the finger. Finally, the floating setting is also a higher profile setting giving the illusion of your center stone “hovering” in mid-air.

Your choice of setting can impact whether your wedding band sits flush with your engagement ring. The perfect wedding band should complement your engagement ring seamlessly.

However, some bands have unique design elements that may create a slight gap when paired together. In this case, we recommend using a spacer band so as not to damage either ring.

Engagement Ring Center Stone Shape

The shape of your center stone is another important factor to consider before you purchase your wedding band. Some of our clients prefer to match their center stone shape to their wedding bands while others prefer to try an entirely different shape. Some clients prefer a classic, plain band or round eternity band, regardless of their center stone shape, while others opt for something funky like a multi-shape band.

Know Your Wedding Band Ring Size

Of course, when considering a wedding band, it’s important to know your correct ring size. The perfect wedding band should have a comfortable but snug fit so that it doesn’t slide up and down your finger. Knowing your correct size also reduces the need for resizing later on.

While you can stop by our showroom to get sized in person, we also offer a free ring sizer that we can mail to you. With easy-to-follow instructions on our YouTube channel to guide you through the process, we’re sure you’ll find the perfect fit.

Knowing the width of your band is also important and relative to your ring size. Thinner, more delicate bands tend to fit more true to size, while chunkier bands may need to be sized up. Similarly, if you plan on stacking your ring with others, you might need to size up slightly to ensure a comfortable fit for all of your rings. Ultimately, the key is to find a size that allows the ring to slide over your knuckle easily but feels secure and comfortable throughout the day.

Eternity rings have become an increasingly popular choice of wedding band. With diamonds all around the band, it makes for a beautiful ring. However, unlike most rings, eternity cannot be resized due to the continuous diamond setting. If you prefer the appearance of an eternity band but are worried about sizing, you may want to opt for a three-quarter band instead.
